There’ll be no fireside cocoa at Camp Santanoni this winter, the latest Adirondack tradition to go dormant during the coronavirus pandemic.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Friends of Camp Santanoni announced Wednesday that would cancel their three Santanoni Winter Weekends in 2021 to prevent community spread of the virus.
The events, usually over two three-day holiday weekends in January and February and a third weekend in March, reward skiers and snowshoers to trek 5 miles in to the state-owned Great Camp in Newcomb with a warm beverage by the woodstove in the camp’s artist’s cabin. The Friends of Santanoni is co-sponsored by Newcomb, the Adirondack Interpretive Center, DEC and Adirondack Architectural Heritage, which provides tours of the old lodge.
The partners said they hope to resume the winter weekends in 2022.
