The snow has fallen (with many parts of our region receiving well over a foot) and the roads are now cleared. So what are you waiting for?!?! Let’s get out and play in that fresh powder. I’ve put together a few ideas for a variety of ski outings, using our archive of 20+ years of outdoor recreation stories.
Foxy Brown ski trail
This first one is so new, we haven’t even written about it yet (but we do have this photo gallery). It’s the Foxy Brown cross-country ski trail and it’s a 5.6-mile loop in Piseco that starts at the airport. Look for a story about this trek in the next issue of our magazine.
Tupper Lake Triad
A few years ago, our multimedia reporter Mike Lynch and former editor Phil Brown hit up the three mountains that make up the Tupper Lake Triad: Coney, Goodman and Arab. Mike put together this photo gallery from Coney and Goodman (and the above video!).
Whiteface Memorial Highway
Whiteface Memorial Highway is an obvious, but classic choice. Check out this article from a few years back and also check out the weather before you go, the wind chill has been brutal at higher elevations lately.

Buck Mountain
If you are in the Lake George area, or in the mood to try something new, check out this article about skiing Buck Mountain. Author Alan Wechsler writes “In deep snow years, Buck offers a fine ski.”
Five Ponds Wilderness
While you might not have to travel in search of powder right now, Phil Brown was on a quest back in 2017 to find some pristine snow and scored big time in the Five Ponds Wilderness. He started out in Wanakena on a trail to Glasby Pond, about five miles away. Here’s what he had to say about the trip.
