Alcohol is essential in the COVID-19 outbreak and not just for drinking (although liquor stores are designated as “essential businesses.”) But some area distilleries are switching gears and turning their product into hand sanitizer. According to information posted on Facebook, two Lake George distilleries have been communicating their progress with hand sanitizer production.
From Lake George Distilling Company in a post on March 18:
“We have just received notice from the federal government that in light of the COVID-19 virus all distilled spirit plants will be allowed to produce hand sanitizer. We will immediately begin working on this project and hope to be able to offer hand sanitizer made under the guidance of the World Health Organization as soon as possible. In an effort to support our community there will be no charge for this product. Stay tuned for availability.”
Springbrook Hollow Farm Distillery has been making and giving away 2 oz. bottles for free, with a goal of hitting 25,000 bottles. To keep the giveaway going, the owners started a Go Fund Me to help cover the costs.
The Adirondack Explorer thanks its advertising partners. Become one of them.
On Monday (March 23) they posted: “We’re almost halfway to our goal, we’ve almost raised enough to do another 12,000 bottles of free hand sanitizer. We’ve handed out 5,000 bottles so far. The distillery will be closed tomorrow as we regroup, focus on production, and look to begin supplying more bulk orders to local organizations that need it. We will be open again on Tuesday and will continue to hand out 2oz bottles for free to the public. Thank you for all of your support so far.”
