Upon returning to the same crossing, the river had swollen dramatically from all-day heavy rains. Now stranded with rapids separating them from the trailhead, the two females and one male hiker from Minnesota called to see what they should do.

Town of Keene Essex County Wilderness Rescue: On August 12 at 12:11 p.m., DEC’s Ray Brook Dispatch received a call from a man reporting that his wife had a non-weight bearing ankle injury on the side…
On Aug. 5 at 11:25 p.m., Franklin County 911 transferred a call to DEC's Ray Brook Dispatch reporting an overdue trail runner on the Deer Pond Trails. The 19-year-old runner from Mexico runs on trails daily but was unfamiliar with this particular trail system.
The hikers had climbed down to see the waterfall at Hanging Spear Falls and could not get back out.
DEC's Raybrook Dispatch received a request for assistance for a 61-year-old male hiker from Savannah, NY, who suffered a cardiac event one-quarter of a mile from the summit of Mount Marcy.

A 23-year-old man is dead after an apparent fall from a waterfall between the Cascade lakes earlier this week.
On June 15 at 1:24 a.m., Central Dispatch received a call from Tupper Lake Police requesting assistance in locating a 62-year-old male last seen at his residence on June 12.
Forest rangers had several rescues and participated in training exercises recently.
