A new “glamping” retreat in Lake Luzerne is getting ready to open, and now taking reservations starting Memorial Day weekend.
The fancy camping concept, called Huttopia, will offer 79 wood-frame and canvas tents that are hooked up to electricity and include full beds and bathrooms.
Huttopia is a European brand that has been expanding in the U.S., with campgrounds also in New Hampshire and Maine. The new Adirondacks location sits on 275 acres on Lake Avenue, near Route 9N at the site of the former Mt. Kenyon Campground.

The project was approved by the Adirondack Park Agency last spring, but plans and construction for the campground were delayed due to the pandemic. It is now scheduled to open in May, with a season running through October. Rates start at $120 per night, and there are multiple types of accommodations to choose from.
The vast majority of the tents are family-style models with two bedrooms, meant to sleep five. There’s also a model meant for couples that includes a king- or queen-sized bed. All include a full bathroom, electricity, cooking equipment and utensils, and enclosed patio with an outdoor lounge area. If you’re looking for a more traditional experience, however, two of the tents offered are “electricity-free.”
But that’s not all. The campground also features a coffee bar, central lodge, heated swimming pool and outdoor cinema. Guests will also be able to indulge in “French camping cuisine” and wines, as well as local craft beverages.

The campground is about 4 miles from Lake George, and the owners are pitching it as a convenient getaway for New York City and Capital Region tourists alike.
Huttopia’s footprint across Europe includes more than 60 properties. The company’s founders were drawn to the Adirondacks after visiting from Canada, a company representative previously told the Adirondack Explorer.
The Lake Luzerne campground is expected to accommodate about 300 people. It adds to a few other glamping options in the Adirondacks, including Posh Primitive in Chestertown and Camp Orenda in Johnsburg.
Seems cute! I bet the Canadians will go nuts over this once they’re allowed back over the border. I’d go just to practice my French with them 🙂
