Become a member of the Adirondack Explorer’s Legacy Circle
The Adirondack Explorer has established The Legacy Circle, a new and exciting way for you to establish your personal legacy for your not-for-profit news organization dedicated to protecting and celebrating our incomparable Adirondack Park and its rural communities.
The Legacy Circle honors donors who have made an investment in the Adirondack Explorer’s Endowment with an outright contribution or through your will, trust, or other planned gift.
You can turn your passion for the Adirondack Explorer into a lasting legacy for decades to come with a planned gift of any size, or by making a gift during your lifetime to the Explorer’s Endowment or Annual Fund.
There are many ways that you can invest in the Adirondack Explorer, thereby ensuring the effectiveness and longevity of our journalism for the Adirondacks and future generations. You can simply designate the Adirondack Explorer as a beneficiary in your will, retirement account, or life insurance policy.
- Gifts of Cash: Outright contributions are the easiest way to give. When considering the size of your gift, remember that you may make an outright gift or a pledge that can be fulfilled over several years. Contributions of cash are tax deductible.
- Gifts of Appreciated Assets: Any appreciated asset, such as securities or real estate that is donated to the Adirondack Explorer qualifies for both a federal and state tax deduction and avoids the tax on capital gains. You receive a charitable deduction for its fair-market value, and you avoid tax on the capital-gain element in the property.
- Charitable Bequest: You may designate the Adirondack Explorer as a direct beneficiary of specific assets, or a portion of your estate or of your residuary estate.
We suggest the following wording for a bequest:
I bequeath $___________ (or a percentage of the residuary estate) toward the Endowment of the Adirondack Explorer, a not-for-profit news organization devoted to the preservation and enjoyment of the Adirondack Park.
- Charitable Trust: Establish a Charitable Lead Trust (CLT) or Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) benefitting the Adirondack Explorer.
- Charitable Gift Annuity: Receive predictable payments during your life and receive an immediate tax deduction.
- Beneficiary: Designate the Adirondack Explorer as a beneficiary to your life insurance policy.
The Explorer is pleased to work with donors to define the terms of your gift. Please be sure to check with your own financial advisor before making any final decisions.
We invite you to contact Tracy Ormsbee, Publisher, if you have questions, need more information, or would like to meet. You may reach her at (518) 891-9352 Ext. 1021; [email protected]
We look forward to welcoming you as a Member in the Adirondack Explorer’s Legacy Circle.
The Jeffrey Family Fund: A new chapter for Adirondack news
Tad and Nancy Jeffrey passed along to their family not only a love of the Adirondacks, but also their commitment to supporting Adirondack causes for which they cared deeply. And in the fall of 2022, six years after Tad’s death and four years after Nancy’s, their children made a $500,000 gift from their parents to the Endowment of Adirondack Explorer, creating the Tad and Nancy Jeffrey Family Fund for Adirondack Journalism.
